README

remotion-vision-mcp

A Bun-first MCP server for Remotion screenshot workflows and agentic vision loops.

What already exists in Remotion

Remotion already ships @remotion/mcp, but the implementation in upstream-remotion/packages/mcp/src/index.ts is a documentation search tool backed by a hosted endpoint. It helps an editor understand Remotion docs, but it does not render frames, return images, or support a screenshot validation loop.

This project fills that gap.

Features

  • Auto-detect a local Remotion entry point by scanning for registerRoot()
  • Reuse in-memory bundles between tool calls for faster iteration
  • Reuse a shared Remotion browser instance for repeated screenshots
  • Return screenshots as MCP image content for vision models
  • Sample multiple frames from a composition for storyboard-style validation
  • Save renders to disk when you want persistent artifacts

Tools

  • discover_remotion_project
  • list_remotion_compositions
  • take_remotion_screenshot
  • render_remotion_storyboard

Install

bun install

Run

bun run src/index.ts

MCP config

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "remotion-vision": {
      "command": "bun",
      "args": ["run", "/absolute/path/to/remotion-mcp/src/index.ts"]
    }
  }
}

Notes

  • Use forceBundle: true after editing a Remotion project if you want the MCP to rebuild immediately.
  • If a project needs a custom Webpack override, pass webpackOverridePath.
  • If you already have a hosted Remotion bundle, pass serveUrl to skip local bundling.
