README
Random Number MCP Server
This project implements a simple Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides a tool to generate random numbers using the random.org API.
Overview
This server demonstrates the basic concepts of MCP, including:
- Setting up an MCP server.
- Defining and implementing tools.
- Integrating with an external API.
- Configuring the server for use with MCP clients.
Prerequisites
- Node.js and npm installed.
- An MCP client such as the Claude desktop app.
Project Setup
- Clone the repository:
git clone [repository_url] cd [project_directory]
- Install dependencies:
npm install
API
The server uses the random.org API to generate true random numbers. No API key is required for basic usage.
MCP Server Implementation
The server is implemented in index.ts
and uses the @modelcontextprotocol/sdk
to handle MCP communication.
Tool: get_random_number
This tool retrieves a random integer from the random.org API.
Input Parameters:
max
(optional): An integer specifying the maximum value (inclusive) of the random number. Defaults to 100.
Output:
- A string containing the random number.
Server Configuration
The server is configured through the cline_mcp_settings.json
file. You need to add an entry for this server, specifying the command to run it:
{
"mcpServers": {
"random-number": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["[path/to/index.js]"],
"env": {}
}
}
}
Replace [path/to/index.js]
with the actual path to the compiled index.js
file (usually in a build
or dist
directory after running npm run build
).
Running the Server
- Build the server
npm run build
- Start the server (this is typically done automatically by the MCP client after configuration).
Usage
Once the server is running and configured, you can use the get_random_number
tool through your MCP client.
Recommended Servers
playwright-mcp
A Model Context Protocol server that enables LLMs to interact with web pages through structured accessibility snapshots without requiring vision models or screenshots.
Magic Component Platform (MCP)
An AI-powered tool that generates modern UI components from natural language descriptions, integrating with popular IDEs to streamline UI development workflow.
MCP Package Docs Server
Facilitates LLMs to efficiently access and fetch structured documentation for packages in Go, Python, and NPM, enhancing software development with multi-language support and performance optimization.
Claude Code MCP
An implementation of Claude Code as a Model Context Protocol server that enables using Claude's software engineering capabilities (code generation, editing, reviewing, and file operations) through the standardized MCP interface.
@kazuph/mcp-taskmanager
Model Context Protocol server for Task Management. This allows Claude Desktop (or any MCP client) to manage and execute tasks in a queue-based system.
Linear MCP Server
Enables interaction with Linear's API for managing issues, teams, and projects programmatically through the Model Context Protocol.
mermaid-mcp-server
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that converts Mermaid diagrams to PNG images.
Jira-Context-MCP
MCP server to provide Jira Tickets information to AI coding agents like Cursor

Linear MCP Server
A Model Context Protocol server that integrates with Linear's issue tracking system, allowing LLMs to create, update, search, and comment on Linear issues through natural language interactions.

Sequential Thinking MCP Server
This server facilitates structured problem-solving by breaking down complex issues into sequential steps, supporting revisions, and enabling multiple solution paths through full MCP integration.
