README
Movie List MCP Server
MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets you search Tamil movies by name and get their page links from moviesdatamil.net/tamil-2026-movies/.
What it does
- Tool:
search_movie– Search by movie name (partial, case-insensitive). Returns the movie page URL(s).
Setup
npm install
npm run build
Run
npm start
# or for development with tsx:
npm run dev
The server uses stdio transport (stdin/stdout), so it is intended to be run as a subprocess by an MCP client (e.g. Cursor, Claude Desktop).
Use in Cursor
- Open Cursor Settings → Cursor Settings → MCP (or edit the MCP config file).
- Add this server to your MCP config (e.g.
~/.cursor/mcp.jsonor the path Cursor shows):
{
"mcpServers": {
"movielist": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/Users/manikandan/Desktop/movielist/dist/index.js"]
}
}
}
Replace the path with the absolute path to your movielist/dist/index.js.
- Restart Cursor or reload MCP servers.
- In chat, you can ask: “Search for the movie Jockey” or “Get the link for Fourth Floor movie” – the assistant will use the
search_movietool and return the movie link.
Use in Claude Desktop
In Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, add:
{
"mcpServers": {
"movielist": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/movielist/dist/index.js"]
}
}
}
Restart Claude Desktop and use the MCP; you can then ask for movie links by name.
Debug with MCP Inspector
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector node dist/index.js
This opens a UI where you can call search_movie with a name and see the response.
