README
Jira MCP Server (Self-Hosted Jira + PAT)
1. Configure env
Create a .env file:
JIRA_BASE_URL=https://jira.yourcompany.local
JIRA_PAT=your_personal_access_token
2. Run locally (dev)
set -a; source .env; set +a; npm start
3. Build and install server to a chosen folder
npm run build -- --target:C:\tools\mcp
This installs to:
C:\tools\mcp\jira-mcp-server
4. Build + also install Copilot MCP client config
npm run build:copilot -- --target:C:\tools\mcp
By default this also updates:
%USERPROFILE%\.copilot\mcp-config.json
You can choose a different client config file:
npm run build:copilot -- --target:C:\tools\mcp --client-config:C:\temp\mcp-config.json
5. What gets added to Copilot config
The installer writes/updates an MCP server named jira-self-hosted pointing to:
<target>\jira-mcp-server\dist\jira-mcp-server.js
If JIRA_BASE_URL and JIRA_PAT are set in your shell while building, they are copied into that MCP entry's env block.
