Harvest MCP Server
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides tools for interacting with the Harvest API. This server exposes Harvest's time tracking, project management, and invoicing functionality through a standardized MCP interface.
Features
The Harvest MCP server provides access to:
- Company: Retrieve company information
- Contacts: List, create, update, and delete contacts
- Clients: Manage client records
- Time Entries: Track time, list entries, start/stop timers
- Projects: Create and manage projects
- Tasks: Define and organize tasks
- Users: List users and get current user info
Prerequisites
- Node.js 18 or higher
- A Harvest account with API access
- Harvest API credentials (Account ID and Personal Access Token)
Installation
- Clone this repository:
git clone <repository-url>
cd harvest-mcp
- Install dependencies:
npm install
- Build the TypeScript code:
npm run build
- Create a
.envfile based on.env.example:
cp .env.example .env
- Add your Harvest credentials to
.env:
HARVEST_ACCOUNT_ID=your_harvest_account_id
HARVEST_ACCESS_TOKEN=your_harvest_personal_access_token
Getting Harvest API Credentials
- Log in to your Harvest account
- Go to Settings → My Profile
- Click on Personal Access Tokens
- Click Create New Personal Access Token
- Give it a name and click Create Personal Access Token
- Copy the token (you won't be able to see it again)
- Your Account ID is visible in the URL when logged into Harvest
Usage
Running the Server
For development:
npm run dev
For production:
npm start
Configuring with Claude Desktop
Add the following to your Claude Desktop configuration file:

Error Handling
The server includes comprehensive error handling:
- Invalid API credentials will return authentication errors
- Rate limiting is respected per Harvest's API guidelines
