README

Excel-PPT Generator

The Excel-PPT Generator is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that automates the workflow between data entry in Excel and report generation in PowerPoint. It allows an AI assistant to bridge the gap between financial calculations and final presentations.

Features

  • Write Inputs: Updates specific Excel cells (Quantity, Price, Country, etc.) directly from a chat interface.
  • Read Outputs: Uses xlwings to open Excel and read calculated results (Subtotal, Tax, Total), ensuring all formulas are fully evaluated.
  • Generate PPT: Automatically populates a PowerPoint template by replacing placeholders (e.g., {{total}}) with actual data from the Excel output.

Setup

1. Prerequisites

  • Windows OS: Required because xlwings interacts with the local Excel desktop application.
  • Python 3.10+.
  • Dependencies: Install via pip:
    pip install mcp openpyxl python-pptx xlwings

2. Files Required

Ensure the following files are in your project directory:

  • server.py: The MCP server code.
  • dummy_tables.xlsx: Your workbook with "Inputs" and "Outputs" sheets.
  • blank.pptx: Your template containing placeholder tags.

3. Claude Desktop Configuration

Add the server to your claude_desktop_config.json file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "excel-ppt-generator": {
      "command": "uv",
      "args": [
        "--directory",
        "C:\\Users\\your_user\\path\\to\\folder",
        "run",
        "server.py"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Possible Changes & Improvements

  • Add Follow the Money Prompt tool: Add this step to automatically find information about company queried.
  • Add Igy Personality: make it so the user can call the mcp by name/ add personality.
