EPO Register MCP
MCP server that retrieves document metadata from the European Patent Register using the get_ep_register_documents tool.
README
EPO Register MCP
This repository implements the MVP for an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that retrieves document metadata from the European Patent Register.
Local setup
-
Create and activate a virtual environment
python -m venv .venv source .venv/bin/activate # Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate
-
Install dependencies
pip install -U pip pip install -e .[default]
If you prefer pip installs without pyproject extras:
pip install pydantic beautifulsoup4 requests playwright fastmcp pytest
-
Install Playwright browsers (required only for Playwright fallback)
playwright install chromium
Run the MCP server (requires fastmcp installed)
python -m src.server
If fastmcp is not installed, the module exposes a simple HTTP health endpoint instead:
uvicorn src.server:app --reload --port 8000
Inspecting and calling the tool
- The MCP tool is named get_ep_register_documents and accepts a single input field: { "applicationNumber": "EP07848397" }
Running tests
pytest -q
Notes
- No PDF download or dossier download functionality has been implemented.
- The code intentionally avoids any CAPTCHA solving, stealth plugins, or access-control bypass.
