Developer Utility MCP
Provides developer utilities like UUID generation, hashing, JSON formatting, environment information, and reusable prompts via the Model Context Protocol.
README
Developer Utility MCP
A beginner-friendly Model Context Protocol (MCP) server built with Python to learn and demonstrate the core concepts of MCP through practical developer utilities.
This project focuses on understanding how an MCP-compatible AI host can discover and interact with Tools, Resources, and Prompts exposed by an MCP server.
Overview
Developer Utility MCP is a local MCP server that provides a small collection of developer-focused capabilities such as UUID generation, hashing, JSON formatting, environment information, and reusable prompts.
The project was intentionally kept simple so the focus remains on understanding the MCP architecture and protocol flow.
It demonstrates:
- MCP Host / Client / Server architecture
- stdio transport
- MCP Tools
- MCP Resources
- MCP Prompts
- Tool discovery and invocation
- Input schemas
- Structured outputs
- Input validation
- Controlled error handling
- Logging and observability
- MCP Inspector testing
- Claude Desktop integration
